The varied and arduous work that goes into running an organaisation such as this is overseen by our Board of Directors but the day to day decisions are taken in various specialist committees. In alphabetical order, they are:
Archives
The Archives Committee collects, catalogues and preserves material pertaining to the history of the PQSPB/ BPQ.
Awards
The Awards Committee recognizes and rewards outstanding member and province-wide achievement in conservation through a series of annual awards and discretionary awards.
Communications
The overall responsibility of the Communications Committee is to oversee and monitor the Society’s means of communication, which combine to provide information about the Society and its activities, primarily to members of the Society, secondarily to the general birding public.
Conservation
The purpose of the Conservation Committee is to ensure that Bird Protection Quebec (BPQ) is aware of conservation issues relevant to its interests and to propose, manage, monitor and facilitate, as appropriate, any actions or projects related to bird protection.
Education
The aim of the education committee is to help educate the public about birds.
Executive
The purpose of the Executive Committee is to oversee the management of BPQ, its programs and the functioning of
its Board of Directors and committees, to ensure that the organization’s goals and objectives are being met.
Field Trips
The BPQ Field Trip Committee is responsible for organizing birding excursions on a regular and on-going
basis.
Finance
The Finance Committee is responsible for the management and reporting of all financial affairs of the society and making recommendations to the Board to assist in their financial decisions.
Hawkwatch
The Montreal Hawk Count was begun in 1975, and is one of the longest running, full coverage (1980 onward), hawk migration studies in North America. The data acquired is included in the database of the Hawk Migration Association of North America, an organization of which Bird Protection Quebec is a founding member.
Marketing
The Bird Protection Quebec Marketing Committee is responsible for promotional and publicity activities aimed at increasing public awareness of Bird Protection Quebec, its objectives and achievements; increasing membership by undertaking specific activities to attract new members; providing promotional assistance to other Bird Protection Quebec committees for regular and special events.
Monthly Meetings
The Monthly Lectures Committee is responsible for selecting and arranging for informed and engaging speakers, knowledgeable of their subject matter, to speak about subjects related to our mission, at monthly meetings.
Membership Services
The overall responsibility of the Membership Services Committee is twofold: to support and encourage the participation of current members in the birding and other activities of the Society; to attract new members.
Nominating
The Nominating Committee is responsible for drawing up a proposed slate of board members and elected officers and for recommending chairs and members of standing committees to the Executive Committee, when necessary. This committee also oversees an election at the Annual General Meeting if it is required.
Philipsburg Sanctuary
The overall responsibility of the Philipsburg Committee is to manage the habitat within the Sanctuary property owned by Bird Protection Quebec in order to maintain and increase populations and diversity of birds.
Property Acquisition
The Property Acquisition Committee will support the purchase and protection of Québec property as designated by the BPQ Board.
Research
The Research Committee will promote and support research dealing with Québec ornithology through the awarding of monetary research grants.
Sanctuaries
The purpose of the Committee is to maintain oversight of those properties owned in part or in whole or managed by Bird Protection Quebec with the exception of the Philipsburg sanctuary.
Support Grants
To provide direct financial support to individuals or non-profit organizations carrying out activities in alignment with the mission of BPQ.
Tchébec
The tchébec Committee is responsible for the preparation and publication of the annual report of Bird Protection Quebec, tchébec.
Library
The BPQ Library Committee is responsible for the management of the Society’s collection of books, magazines and audio-visual materials.
